The buildings were framed with a solid reinforced concrete porticoed structure, which includes pillars and beams, supporting solid slabs on the intermediate floors and roof. The brick masonry walls are plastered and painted, while the metal sheet roofs rest on metal beams, transmitting the load to the reinforced concrete beams on the inner contour of the top floor.
Although the original construction has maintained its robustness over the years, the school has not received significant interventions since its inauguration. The recent renovation, now completed, has given the D. João II Secondary School a new lease of life. The remodelling included a smart rearrangement of the internal subdivisions, the improvement of interior coverings and the updating of the superstructure, ensuring a more efficient and welcoming environment.
In addition, all electrical, telecommunications, water and sewage infrastructures were completely renovated. The project also involved revitalising the exterior arrangements and modernising the sports areas, providing more dynamic and functional spaces.
With this intervention, the D. João II Secondary School not only strengthened its functionality and aesthetics, but also provided a more modern and inspiring environment in which to continue offering excellent education.
