Built in record time, lasting just two years, the project was divided into three phases. Initially, demolition, excavation and peripheral containment, foundations and the diversion of a rainwater interceptor were carried out. In a second phase, construction began on the three buildings that currently house the research laboratories, consultation areas, diagnostics and oncological treatment.
Building A houses two gardens, one exclusive to users and the other open to all visitors to the centre; an isolated laboratory where experiments and studies on animals are carried out; a library, a cafeteria and a gym.
Building B has an exhibition hall, an auditorium, offices, a catering area and a direct connection to Building A via a glass bridge. Building C houses the outdoor amphitheatre prepared for musical performances, scientific or artistic sessions.
The Champalimaud Centre is open to the public and can be used by everyone. It comprises panoramic gardens with a wide variety of trees and several green areas.
