The work focused on correcting construction problems, improving environmental comfort, safety and accessibility, and reorganising and expanding teaching and non-teaching spaces. A new building was erected to connect the different existing wings, positioning the key programme spaces in a central location. This route, known as the ‘learning street’, connects the library, the multipurpose room equipped with a 217-seat telescopic bench, the work and break areas for teachers, the class directors' room and the study rooms.
Building A1 houses the administrative area and secretariat with its own entrance from the outside, in addition to housing the student lounge, the canteen and kitchen, the bar, the convenience store and the student association. Buildings A2 and A3 return to their original layout, with classrooms and toilets on the ground floors. Building A4 is dedicated to the arts centre on the ground floor and to laboratories for the experimental teaching of biology, physics and chemistry on the upper floor, including preparation spaces and classrooms. Building A5 houses the technology centre, with ICT rooms and multimedia workshops. In the sports hall, support spaces were expanded and environmental comfort conditions were improved.
This intervention not only modernised but also revitalised the D. Dinis Secondary School, creating a more functional, safe and comfortable educational environment. The result is a space where students and staff can enjoy ideal conditions for teaching and learning and guarantee the continuity of an excellent education in a modern and inspiring setting.
