During the construction process, various large-scale works were carried out, such as: clearing, earthworks (excavations and embankments, waterproofing and accessories), drainage, water supply network, electrical network installation, paving, and landscaping.
The aforementioned works were essential to successfully complete the project; however, to clearly understand the project's depth, it is necessary to explore the following specifics:
-Clearing and stripping of the intervention area;
- Earthworks to shape the terrain for the confinement cell;
-Implementation of the environmental protection system (waterproofing) of the base area, slopes and embankments, consisting of:
.Passive Barrier - a 0.50 m layer of silty-clay soils, reinforced on top with bentonite geocomposite;
.Active Barrier - at least 2.0 mm thick HDPE geomembrane, protected on top by non-woven geotextile in the base area of the cell;
.In the base area – a 0.50 m drainage mineral layer;
-Leachate drainage system;
-Rainwater drainage system;
-Subsurface water drainage system;
-Cell degassing system;
-Access and circulation road around the confinement area;
-Fire network;
-Service network;
-Groundwater monitoring system;
-Rainwater drainage network;
-Electricity distribution and lighting network.
