The following work has been carried out:
- Architecture: masonry, stonework, insulation and waterproofing, ceiling, wall and floor coverings, skirting boards, openings, sanitary equipment, demolition, interior architecture, extension of the sanitary facilities and new smoking room, remodelling of boarding gates 14 to 23 on the north pier.
- Electrical, telecommunications and electronic installations;
- Water, sewage and drainage;
- Mechanical installations;
- Integrated security;
- East road: Demolitions, Earthworks, Paving and Gatehouse.
The expansion was necessary to accommodate operational and commercial growth, considering traffic growth forecasts and congestion effects on important terminal subsystems.
The project also involved the remodelling/expansion of the areas where the baggage handling systems (BHS) are implemented, which were insufficient and limiting from an operational perspective at Lisbon Airport.
Finishing work took place on several floors, with the main works on each level highlighted below:
Level 7:
- Installation of safety equipment for the collective protection of users (guards, walkways, lifelines);
- Completion of ALUCOBOND cladding work;
Level 6:
- Construction of the roofs on the east and south sides;
- Work on the south, west and north façades;
- Installation of bird-netting on the lower edges of the façade;
- Construction of emergency exits;
Level 5:
- Passport control areas;
- Remote disembarkation areas;
- Transfer areas;
- Facilities for the Portuguese Immigration and Borders Service;
- BHS screening, distribution, and supervision areas;
- Staff changing rooms;
- Emergency exits;
Level 4:
- Remote disembarkation areas;
- BHS remodelling - departures + transfers;
- Main HVAC units;
Level 2:
- Expansion of P2 car park;
- New baggage claim area;
- Technical area for baggage conveyors;
- Emergency exits;
Level 1:
- Shops – storage and staff support;
- Cleaning services – storage and staff support;
- Waste - temporary storage;
- Expansion of P2 car park;
- New outdoor car park;
- Technical area for baggage conveyors;
Level 0:
- Expansion of P2 car park.
On level 2, a new 4500 m² baggage claim area was constructed, connected to the New North Busgate and with direct access to the old baggage claim area.
The operational baggage handling areas for arrivals and departures on levels 4, 2 and 1 were also remodelled and extended in order to expand the number of conveyor belts over an area of 10,000 m2.
On level 1, storage compartments and support facilities for commercial area staff (shopkeepers) and maintenance and cleaning areas were completed over an approximate area of 6300 m².
