The project consisted of carrying out a series of structural works, civil construction finishing and special installations for the extension of the terminal and various infrastructures at Francisco Sá Carneiro Airport. This extension allowed the existing terminal, which was approximately 200x80x12.5 metres, to be expanded to 400x120x32 metres.

We would like to highlight the following work carried out:  

Technical tunnels:

- Construction of a tunnel in front of the current terminal, on the air side, with a length of 640 metres and a variable width and an internal height of 4.5 metres. Located in the area bordering the existing terminal, the tunnel has a length of 215 metres and a clear width of 12.20 metres. It is made up of two ∅ 500 pile walls (6,912 ml, corresponding to 860 piles) and its roof slab is concreted against the ground. The rest of the tunnel is open-air. The special installations were placed in this technical tunnel. 

Viaduct connecting Curbsides:

- Construction of a small viaduct (68 m), connecting floor 0 to floor 3 (departures terminal). This viaduct was built in white concrete, with a prestressed deck. 

Terminal central building:

- Construction of the areas designed for departures (check-in) and arrivals halls, passenger support services and the airport's technical areas, spread over 3 floors. The central building was the most challenging and largest construction area, because it was built while the airport was in operation and in the space of the old terminal.  

North, Central and South Piers and North and South Busgates: 

- Areas for embarking and disembarking passengers, commercial spaces, official and airport services, baggage claim and technical areas, spread over 3 floors. In structural and finishing terms, the work in these areas is similar to that mentioned for the terminal central building, without the construction constraints. 

Other relevant work: walkways and roundabouts connecting to the jet bridges, passenger boarding/disembarking areas, areas connecting the terminals and the jet bridges, reinforced concrete mass structures and their related metal structures for the terminal's 11 jet bridges. All the hydraulic, electrical and mechanical installations, signage and safety required for the terminal's operation were also established.
