This project refers to the design and execution of the Expansion of Faro Airport.

This development plan involved the following constructions:

- New Terminal

This building has an area of approximately 40,000 m². Its largest areas are the platform and the curbside, where all passenger processing is done at ground level. Departures are on the west side and arrivals on the east side.

On the east side is the international arrivals hall, the transfer and transit channel to the boarding hall, with security and passport control on the way to the baggage claim area.

The curbside provides access to the large public hall and the 25 check-in counters, with the respective baggage terminal at the rear.

The basement has a service road and a dock for loading and unloading technical support equipment, supplies for kitchen services (for the restaurants), and goods for the duty-free shops and commercial concessions.

The first floor, on a mezzanine, is used on the west side for the offices of the airport management and airlines.

In the central area are the kitchen services and three restaurants for passengers and the public. In the eastern zone, there are conference and exhibition areas (about 800 m²) and a public access terrace.

The New Terminal is 280 metres long and 80 metres deep. The central building occupies 20 metres of this depth along its entire length. The public atrium is also 20 metres deep, and the adjacent curbside is covered with a 10-metre canopy.

The volume built, facing the platform, is 40 metres deep and follows the entire development of the central building, which includes a 5 metre cantilever canopy along its entire length.

- Aircraft Parking Platform

The New Aircraft Parking Platform, in front of the New Terminal, allows 5 B747 aircraft to be parked nose-in. The total capacity of the two platforms (existing and new) varies between 16 and 22 aircraft.

The fuel supply network was extended to the new pits platform.

- Taxiways Extension

The taxiway parallel to the runway was extended on both sides, connecting thresholds 11 and 29, for a total length of 1,700 metres.

- Car Parking

The new Car Parking, built in front of the New Terminal, has a capacity for 258 cars, 96 taxis, 398 rental cars, and 70 buses.

- Road, Water, Drainage, Energy, and Communication Networks

The new road, water, drainage, energy and communications networks were built to meet the needs of the new operational areas and the terminal.
