Inaugurated in 1931, Casino Estoril is a landmark on the Estoril coastline and in the Portuguese economy, being one of the largest entertainment and leisure complexes in Europe. Over the years, it has undergone several renovations.

In 1998, a major work began for extending and remodelling the casino over an area of approximately 5000 m² in order to increase its capacity and modernise its spaces. 

The project had the most significant impact on the following areas: 

- Façade and exterior arrangements 

- Sub-basement 

  • - Storeroom, Central Kitchen, Canteen and Staff Kitchen; 

  • - Technical services for vending machines. 

- Basement 

  • - Black and Silver Room. 

- 2nd Floor 

  • - Traditional Games Room; 

  • - Administrative Services. 

Several specialities were included in this project: civil construction, water and sewage networks, electrical installations, heating, ventilation and air conditioning installations, including the supply and installation of equipment, supply and installation of fire and intrusion detection and extinguishing equipment. 

Several specific works also stand out: 

- Metal structures: 

  • - New roof for the Black and Silver Room; 

  • - New grandstand structure for the Black and Silver Room; 

  • - New stage for the Black and Silver Room; 

  • - Metal structure to support the façade panels; 

  • - Metal structure of the new Administrative Block; 

  • - Metal structure of the new entrance canopies. 

Prefabricated façade panels: 

- 2000 m² of concrete panels imitating fine-peened bush hammered limestone; 

- 800 m² of GRC panels (imitating the same finishing). 

 

In terms of finishing, it is important to emphasise the importance of the work carried out in the Concert Hall and the Traditional Games Hall, with a focus on the coverings: 

- Acoustic coatings 2000 m²; 

- Granite, Alicante limestone 2500 m²; 

- Stainless steel, brass 20 tonnes; 

- Acoustic false ceilings 1100 m²; 

- Mirrors 1500 m²; 

- Fabrics 3000 m². 

 

The special installations for this project were as follows: 

- Decorative lighting; 

- Stage lighting; 

- Lighting; 

- HVAC; 

- Water and sewage networks; 

- Sanitary ware; 

- Fire doors; 

- Fire detection.
