A Brasileira is a historic café in Porto where, in the early 20th century, the first cup of coffee was served in Portugal. The project consisted of rehabilitating the building where the café is located, converting it into a 5-star hotel, maintaining its original features and offering the luxury for which the Pestana group is renowned.

The hotel building has 8 floors, including ground floor and basement.

Above the ground floor, there are 6 floors with a total of 90 rooms, with the ‘café and cafeteria’ as the central theme. Each floor has been assigned a name - coffee, tea, cocoa, pepper, cinnamon and aniseed, which fully respects this principle. Each floor has 15 rooms, corridors/circulation areas, vertical access and 615m2 exclusively for the first floor.

The basement and ground floor are approximately 655m2. The basement consists of a living, multipurpose and meeting area, a gym, toilets, a technical area (cistern), staff social area and hotel laundry. On the ground floor you'll find the hotel's entrance and reception, restaurant and
cafeteria and support areas (2 shops).

One of the main responsibilities and commitments of this project was to preserve the old building, namely the cafeteria, the restaurant, the façades and the service staircase.

In the cafeteria, the work carried out aimed to protect and reinforce the pavement of the 2nd floor (ceiling) so that the upper floors could be demolished and the foundation supporting its structure could be reinforced.

The interior space was also restored. The patio area was demolished and excavated in order to create a foundation that supported a metal-framed tower, so as to ensure the containment of the building.
