The port is a connection point with the IIRSA NORTE project that provided for the construction of an East-West multi-modal transport corridor that connects the northern coast of Peru with Brazil.
The following elements were built for the purposes of the project:
- Dredging:
The following zones were dredged in order to ensure the correct operation of the container terminal:
- Access channel to the dock for the handling of containers;
- Mooring zones on the container dock;
- A new container park;
- Landfill works.
The zone for construction of the container park was dredged to the following depths: NMBSO-5.0m to NMBSO+0.0m towards land. A 4 m deep layer of solid material was dredged and deposited in authorised backfill areas at sea.
In the container park there is moderately compacted earth and from NMBSO-25.0m there is highly altered shale rock with browny-yellow caliche and gesso intrusions of some 14 m (BH – 108 perforation).
Rockfill works were also undertaken for protection of the slopes of the backfills.
- Works for the pier:
The pier is composed of a slab with reinforced concrete beams laid on 5 sets of metallic piles with an average spacing of 4.5 m between the sets.
