The project consisted of the adapting of maritime access to the Port of Setubal terminals in line with the increase in demand for containerised traffic that is expected nationally, taking into account the development of the vessels used in maritime traffic and demands for increased security.
The project consisted of the dredging of the channels for access to the Port of Setubal as follows:
- Barra channel at -15,0 mZH, over an extension of 5 900m;
- Central zone at -15,0 mZH, over an extension of 2 800m;
- North Channel at -13,5 mZH, over an extension of 4 155m.
Complementary to the dredging operation, a headwaters embankment was built at the Roll on- Roll off Terminal employing the materials dredged. The remaining material was deposited in the River Sado Estuary Delta.
