Sabugal Dam is the main storage structure of the Cova da Beira agricultural water management scheme. It is located in the Guarda district, within the Douro catchment area, on the Côa River.

Sabugal Dam was constructed as a zoned earthfill embankment dam with a clay core,  having a maximum height of 58.5 m above foundation level and a crest length of 1005 m.

The project included a side-channel flood spillway with a 35 m wide crest and a discharge channel extending for 348 m. In addition, the bottom outlet and water intake were constructed using steel conduits of Ø 1.50 m and Ø 0.80 m diameters, respectively, installed within galleries.

A grout gallery was also constructed, from which the treatment of the dam foundation and abutments was carried out.
